How die-cast scales compare, from 1:18 shelf pieces down to 1:87.
Scale sizing chart
Scale is the ratio between the model and the real car. At 1:64, a full-size car about 15 feet long shrinks to roughly three inches. The chart shows the same car at each common scale, next to a ruler, so you can picture it on your shelf before you buy.
| Scale | Approx. length | Where you'll see it |
|---|---|---|
| 1:18 | 10 in / 25 cm | Shelf centrepieces, usually with opening doors and hoods |
| 1:24 | 7 in / 18 cm | Big detail in a little less shelf space |
| 1:32 | 5.5 in / 14 cm | A middle ground for display |
| 1:43 | 4 in / 10 cm | The classic European collector scale |
| 1:64Our core scale | 3 in / 7.5 cm | Carded collectibles: Johnny Lightning, Auto World, Greenlight |
| 1:87 | 2 in / 5 cm | HO scale, the same as model railways |
